A Taste of Ireland: St. Patrick’s Day Dessert Inspiration

Céad míle fáilte (kaid mila fall-cha) or in layman’s terms, welcome to our latest article! Bringing you a taste of Ireland, we’re exploring the best the Emerald Isle has to offer for St. Patrick’s Day. From Guinness Cake to Soda Bread, you won’t be left hungry after these bakes.

Guinness Cake

Not just for drinking, you might be surprised to learn that Guinness Draught is a fantastic addition to your chocolate cake recipe. The rich, malty flavour works really well to cut through the intense flavour of chocolate, making for a slice worthy of being at the end of the rainbow. Add a layer of cream cheese frosting for flavour and to top off that Guinness look – perfect for St. Paddy’s Day celebrations.

Soda Bread

Reminiscent of the rugged Irish landscape, soda bread is steeped in tradition. With a hard outer crust and comforting flavour, simply coat a slice with butter and indulge in the simple pleasure of a great piece of bread. Not just tasty but also easy to make, it uses pantry staples such as flour, baking soda, salt, and buttermilk. It’s the perfect bread to start you off on your baking journey.

Baileys Cheesecake

Irish cream liqueur and cheesecake – I mean, what’s not to love?! You can be sure that you’ll see this delicious dessert on menus throughout Ireland. Combining sweet cream cheese and a generous pour of Ireland’s favourite cream liqueur over a crunchy biscuit base, this boozy bake is the perfect end to a day celebrating Irish culture

Bread and Butter Pudding

Shockingly simple but deliciously comforting, bread and butter pudding is a staple in Irish homes – plus, it’s great for using up leftover stale bread! This dessert is as simple as layering slices of buttered white bread in a baking dish and sprinkling raisins throughout. We love soaking the raisins in whiskey to maximise flavour. Finally, a cream and egg mixture is poured over the bread to create that signature custardy texture. Dollop some butter throughout for the pièce de resistance and enjoy!
